I WANGANUI EAST CLUB THE ANNUAL MEETING REPORT FOR PAST SEASON The annual meeting of members of the Wanganui East Swimming Club will be held in the Methodist Hall, Wanganui East, to-morrow night. The report for the past season will be presented, and officers are to be elected for the ensuing season. From the commencement of the 1935-36 season, states the annual report, keen interest was displayed by members and it was maintained throughout, the season, which was marred by execrable weather toward the latter stages. Keen competition was forthcoming in all events at the weekly swims. The list of winners of trophies is as follows: Goh ns Cup: Miss N. Hawke. Handicap Cup: Miss M. Eades. Vice-President’s Cup: Miss C. Annabell. Diving Cup: Miss B. Rush. Simpson Cup: Miss M. Townsend. Schoolgirls’ Breaststroke Cup: Miss A. Hawke. Glenn Vase: M. Breed. Thomson Cup: N. Laird. Handicap Cup: J. Clark. Handicap Cup: F. Jermonson. Diving Cup: G. Brewer. The usual interest was maintained in inter-club contests. To the winners congratulations are extended. The club competed with Marton for the Runnymede Cup, presented by the patron, Mr A. Stuart, and after some excellent racing, Wanganui East, were the winners, and hold the cup for the season. One carnival was held by the club during the season, and this proved successful from all points of view. The annual dance and social evening was held in the Wanganui East Town Hall, and proved most enjoyable. The presentation of trophies was made at this function by Mr J. B. Cotterill, M.P. for Wanganui. Associated with Mr Cotterill on the platform were the club president, Dr. Kenrick Christie, and Mr Ormond Wilson, M.P. for Rangitikei. The patron, Mr A. Stuart, was unavoidably absent in Auckland at the time, and forwarded his apologies. Mr Cotterill tendered the club’s thanks to the ladies who, on many occasions during the season came forward with willing assistance, also to the secretary, Mr H. Hawke, for his untiring efforts on behalf of the club. It is pleasing to note that the membership of the club is as strong as in previous years, and the committee hope the list will be further increased during the coming season. The club gratefully acknowledges donations from many generous supporters. The balance-sheet .shows a very encouraging state of affairs. Thanks are expressed to the Press for valued assistance, and also to the Centre committee and officials.
