WANTED FOUR TESTS ; SOUTH AFRICAN REFUSAL PROSPECTS FOR NEXT YEAR I i [l’er I’reas Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 11. ; A Wellington Rugby enthusiast ha: received a private letter from Capetown revealing that the New Zealanc Rugby Union suggested to the Souti African Rugby Board that, as a quic j pro quo for bringing 32 players, the i Springboks should play four Tests n ’ New Zealand and three in Australia This was unanimously declined at ar emergency meeting of the ALricar Board, all delegates considering that live international games in one toui - would be sufficient for the players J quoting in support the opinions ol > All Blacks and Wallabies when ir Africa. The African Board, however, offered to defray the expense: of the extra three players. The New Zealand Union has since conveyed the opinion that the touring party should be 0n1y.29 as usual The letter tips as certainties foi the lour ‘‘Boy” Louw, S. C. Louw, F Bergh and L. Strachan (forwards), G Brand (lull-back) and D. Craver (half), and says the North-South trial will be held at Johannesburg on October 10 and other trials next April The writer expects the team to have strong forwards, tine full-backs, good wing-three-quarters, sound centres and good halves, but is doubtful of the quality of the inside backs. Discussing the Maoris, he says (he Springboks will play whomever they are told to play and there need be no fear of their conduct toward opponents or hosts. The letter says it. is understood in Africa there will be 21 games in New Zealand and 8 in Australia, but it is stated in Wellington there will be only 17 in New Zealand,
