REGENT THEATRE
“LINING DANGEROUSLY.” In “Living Dangerously,” fhe British International Pictures screen version of the famous play by Reginald Simpson and Frank Gregory, Otto Kruger is seen as a famous Harley Street specialist, who has to face the G.M.C. and answer a charge against him by his partner. This dramatic film will conclude screening to-night at the Regent Theatre. “Laburnum Grove” The film of “Laburnum Grove,” the J. B. Priestley play of dark doings in a respectable London suburb, will start to-morrow at the Regent Theatre. It is a splendid piece of work, with Edmund Gwenn and Sir Cedric Hardwicke providing two of the finest character studies ever seen on the screen. It is essentially a human story of very human people—the respectable suburbanite with a passion for growing tomatoes, and his apparently honest business which was merely a screen for a counterfeiting organisation; the lazy, boastful bro-ther-in-law, always bragging about the East, though he had done no good there for himself; the sly, slick young man who wanted to marry the daughter of the house and borrow money from her father, the girl herself, simple and unaffected, and, lastly, tier mother, utterly sincere in her confidence that her husband’s business was as honest as the day. “Laburnum Grove” is brilliantly acted and technically faultless, with excellent photography and settings. Famous Russian Tenor. The reappearance of the famous Russian tenor Senia Chostiakoff, at ihe Regent Theatre on Wednesday, September 23, supported by international celebrities, will be welcomed by Wanganui enthusiasts who were enthralled by his glorious voice on the occasion of his previous visit.
