GOVERNMENT’S PROPOSALS MARINE DEPARTMENT ESTIMATES [ Per Pros Association. ] WELLINGTON, Aug. 28. The Marine Department's estimates were considered by the House of Representatives this afternoon. Hon. J. G. Cobbe (Opp., Oroua) said he was pleased to see that the matter of arrangements for a survey of the New Zealand coast had been almost completed and in this connection New Zealand had cause lo be grateful to the British authorities for the work they had done. He also was pleased to note that the work of installation of radio beacons would be commenced as soon as possible. Mr. W. P. Endean (Opp., Parnell) asked if the toheroa industry were flourishing, as he believed there was a steady demand for this, delicacy overseas. He considered it highly desirable that radio beacons be established as soon as possible. Hon. P. Fraser said the Government was starring right a way with radio beacons so far as Baring Head and Cape Campbell were concerned. This was just a start with a scheme for placing such beacons right round our coast. The estimates we.e passed.
