HUNTERVILLE j A most enjoyable W.D.F.U. birthjday and children’s party was held in | the Scott’s Hall on Tuesday, August 25, there being a record attendance of members and children. The children indulged in games and a treasure hunt. Mrs. W’li ton lit the candles, Mrs. Cruicki shank, the oldest member, blowing : them out. The “Bring and Buy’’ stall was most i successful, the sum of £5 being realI ised. j Mrs. Grant Simpson won the dinner and Mr. Lou Wong the cake. All present spent an enjoyable and happy afternoon. WANG AN LI PROVIN CIAL EXECUTIVE The usual quarterly meeting of the Wanganui Provincial Executive of the Women’s Division of the N.Z. Farmers’ Union was held in the W.D. Rooms, Wanganui, on Wednesday. Mrs. Mac Lean (president) presided over a representative gathering of members, there being present: Mesdames Alexander, Graham and Newlands (Waverley), McLeod and Gray (Okoia), MacDonald and Miss Wylie (Fordell), Mrs Sommerville (Raetihi). Mesdames Baldwin and Peffers (W tngaehu), Scott, McPhail, Soundy and 1 Miss Polson (Wanganui), Mrs. Low (Makirikiri), Mrs. J. C. Wickham, hon. secretary. Apologies were ieceived from Mrs. Houghton (Raet'hi), Mrs. Anderson (Wangaehu). and Miss Fraser (Wanganui). Mrs. Maclean, in welcoming members, expressed pleasure at such a good attendance and she regretted that there was not a representative of the new branch at Westmere present. Mrs. Maclean reported on the county girls’ education week I recently held in Wanganui. General | satisfaction was expressed for the arrangements made for the girls during their stay in Wanganui and a hearty vote of thanks was passed to all who had helped, especially those who had given hospitality to the girls. It was decided to hold a flower show in November, each branch to appoint a delegate to form a committee to make all arrangements. Mrs. Wickham, hon. secretary, reported eighteen applications had been filled since last meeting and the work was steadily growing. Mrs. Wickham spoke enthusiastically of the meeting of housekeeper secretaries held in Wellington during conference week. The wonderful spirit shown among the workers in the backblocks was most inspiring and the many accounts of the sacrifices made to give help when it was most needed made good hearing. The most important result of that meeting was the recommendation to conference to increase housekeepers’ wages. This was agreed to by conference and will take effect from the first of August. A deputation from the Farmers’ Union, Messrs. Leach, Howie and and Melville, on the committee in connection with the health camp ap- [ peal. Mrs. Brine also attended re- j presenting the Women’s Institutes. Messrs. Siddells, Hope Gibbons and I Bignell spoke of the work and value of the health camp and Mrs. Maclean stressed the point of the benefit to country children. After a very full discussion it was decided to call a meeting on Wednesday, September 2. to finalise the choice of a county queen. Mrs. Maclean congratulated Mrs. Wickham on being again elected hon. vice-president and Miss Polson on being elected advisory* member of the B.N. and 11. Auxiliary.—Carried with acclamation. Hearty vote of thanks were passed to the Waverley and Wangaehu branches for delicious and bounteous morning tea and lunch. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded a happy and successful meeting.
