OBITUARY

MR G. H. B. SLEIGHT The death occurred at. his home, Stewart Street, Aramoho, on Tuesday night of Mr George Henry Burgess Sleight, at the age of 57 years. The late Mr Sleight was horn in Yorkshire, England, and came to New Zealand in 1913. He was a veteran of the South African War, and also served four years with the New Zealand forces during the Great War, being attached to the New Zealand Medical Corps inEgypt. During his service in Egypt he was mentioned in despatches and was also awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. The late Mr Sleight was a keen ambulance man, and was a member of the St. John Ambulance Association for over forty years. He was the district superintendent, of the Wanganui district, and was invested as an officer of the Order or St. John in 1934. He was also a past chairman of the Wanganui St. John Ambulance Association. He was a member of the Druids’ Lodge and also took a prominent part in Masonic affairs, being a Past. Master of St. Andrew Kilwinning Lodge, and a Past Principal of the Royal Arch Chapter. A keen churchman, he was associated all his life with the Methodist. Church in which he was a lay preacher. The late Mr Sleight is survived by a widow and two sons, Mr K. M. Sleight, of Wellington, and Dr. G. F. Sleight, who is at. present in England.
