CHARGE DISMISSED I Per Frees Association. ] AUCKLAND, Aug. 25. Mr. McKean this morning dismissed the adjourned summons charge igainst Joseph Isherwood of publicly ising in connection with his calling as i lecturer the initials D.Sc., which, it ,vas alleged, was intended to cause persons to believe, contrary to fact, .hat he held the degree. During the hearing some weeks ago counsel said that defendant had ob.ained his degree at the University of Delaware, U.S.A., while Isherwood rave evidence that it took him three months to obtain the degree after he had supplied a thesis on psychology, costing him 50 dollars by way of subscription. This morning Isherwood oroduced a large framed diploma which had arrived from Melbourne, where it had been stored, dated May 2, 1932, signed by thirteen persons, conferring on Joseph Isherwood Amarak an honorary degree of doctor jf science. The diploma was headed, “Mecca College of Chiropractic, Wilmington, Delaware.” Isherwood said that Amarak was an Indian name which he used. He admitted that the Institute was not connected with the University. After surveying (he diploma, the magistrate said: “It looks very pretty, but I don’t know what value is in it.” Finally, Mr. McKean said that, unless he had proof that the institute had no power to issue such a diploma, he must dismiss the information. The j charge was accordingly dismissed.
