FREEZING DISPUTE POSITION EXPLAINED « W c. ii II [Per Press Association] j WELLINGTON, Aug. 25. ( . Mr. Alex. McLeod, secretary of ( i the Wellington District Freezing £ . Workers' Union, and Mr. J. A. Mil- <| burn, secretary of the Otago and Southland Freezing Workers’ Union, a state: “Since our return from Auck- tl land numerous inquiries have been received in respect of the sudden o' withdrawal of the freezing workers' oi dispute from the Arbitration Court at w Auckland, as reported in a Press As- h sociation message on August 20, and a: which caused some misunderstanding, gi For the purpose of clarifying the position we wish to state that there tl were three separate disputes refer- b: red to the Court for settlement, ir namely the North and South Island h< Freezing Workers’ Associations, d< which includes the Auckland District Freezing Workers’ Union, the Wei- st lington and Otago and Southland Dis- cl trict Unions, but to expedite matters the Arbitration Court, while in Wellington, added the Wellington and Otago and Southland Unions as pai# ties to the North and South Island Association’s dispute and set down a date for hearing at the Auckland sitting at the eleventh hour. For reasons best known to the North and South Island Associations, they decided to withdraw the dispute from the Court. No notification was thus given to the freezing companies or the Wellington, Otago, and Southland C Unions until the representatives of sl these parties were on route to Auck- n land for the hearing. '' “The position now is, we under- ci . stand, that the North and South S 1 Island Association are taking steps io 11 file a fresh dispute, but the Wellington and Otago and Southland dis- a trlcts’ original disputes will stand, e and shall be heard on the Court’s re- ", turn to Wellington and should hold precedence to any fresh dispute filed by the North and South Island As- " sociations. ______ u
