WEATHER FORECAST
Meteorological Office, Wellington, Thursday, August 6, 4 p.m. General Situation. —A westerly depression is crossing the southern portion of the Dominion but pressure remains high over the North Tasman Sea and has risen over South-eastern Australia. Forecast.—Winds; Moderate to strong north-west to west still of gale force at times in and south of Cook Strait backing gradually to the south-west. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough south of Cape Egmont and in the Cook Strait and Foveaux Strait areas, elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: West to south-west winds strong in the southern portion with rough seas, elsewhere light to moderate with moderate seas. Weather.—Changeable and rather squally with rain at times in districts with a westerly aspect but more especially from Kawhia southwards. Fair for the most part in eastern districts but occasional scattered rain probable there also. Some hail in the south. Temperatures becoming colder. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine 3hr. 20min. Fainfall: Nil. Shade temperature; Maximum 60deg. Fahr.; minimum, 46deg. Fahr.
