Distributing Co., Ltd., report a very successful sale of hoggets at the above fair on Tuesday. The yarding was well over advertised numbers and attracted buyers from Waikato, Taranaki, Taihape, Manawatu and Wairarapa as well as local graziers. The quality of hoggets offered was good and competition was keen on every line submitted and we report a total clearance. The top price for ewe hoggets was 34s Id for a very nice line of 200 on account G. L. Marshall, and the top price for wether hoggets was 24s lOd on account of the same vendor. We also yarded 70 head of cattle and 60 pigs. We quote principal sales as follows: On account G. L. BULLS SALE Dalgety and Company, Limited, report an average entry in all classes at the Bulls sale on Monday, when there was a good attendance. For the first time for a number of years.there were no entries from the North Island but the southern provinces were well represented.’ There was not the same number of show cattie and sheep forward as at past national sales, but the general display was better. The best beef prices for some years were realised, best quality selling at up to 37s 6d a 1001 b. The top cattle price was £4O for a South Otago bn! lock and the best sheep figure was 60s for an Ellesmere pen. The sheen sale fully maintained last week's rood rates and fat cattle were up to 25s a head dearer. The few store sheep forward sold I well. THE WESTFIELD SALE BEEF IN SHORT SUPPLY READY DEMAND FOR SHEEP [l’cr Pi-ess Association] AUCKLAND, Aug. 5. The shortest supply of ox beef in months was before. Westfield, buyers to-day, resulting in firmer values by Is per 1001 b, individual quotations also being . slightly higher. Cows and heifers were yarded in greater numbers and the quality showed a proportionate improvement. Prices in this department were also quoted on a par with the general beef average. Extra choice ox sold to 31s per LOOlb, choice and prime 27s to 295, secondary and plain 24s to 265, prime young cow and heifer beef 27s to 295, ordinary 16s to 235. Extra heavy prime steers made £ll 10s to £l4 15s, heavy £ll 5s to £l3s, lighter £9 15s to £lO 10s. light £8 15s to £9 10s, small and unfinished £6 10s to £7 10s. Extra heavy prime young cows and heifers made £8 10s to £lO 17s 6d, heavy £6 I.os to £7 10s, lighter £5 5s to £6 ss, other killable £3 to £4 10s. The sheep pens were heavily stocked and a ready demand produced values well up to those ruling for weeks past. A choice line of extra heavy wethers realised 40s and others from 35s to 37s 6d. Heavy made 34s to 36s 9d. medium 33s to 35s 3d, light 28s 6d to 32s 6d, small and unfinished 20s to 27s 6d. Extra heavy ewes sold at 30s to 33s 3d, heavy 29s 6d to 30s Gd. medium 28s to 29s 3d, light 24s to 27s 9d, just killable 19s to 235, other ewes from 5s upward. Hogget lambs were moderately plentiful and of fair quality at firm rates. Extra heavy prime made 26s to 28s, heavy 24s to 25s 6d, medium 22s to 23s 6d. light 20s to 21s 9d, best unfinished 15s to 19s. others 10s to 14s 6d. Four of the first spring lambs of the season sold to 355. Few good quality colves were for sale, the yarding comprising mostly small and young sorts, with values firm. Runners made £3 5s to £6 9s, heavy vealers £4 7s to £4 18s, medium £3 9s to £3 15s, light £2 15s to £3 4s, small £2 4s to £2 Bs. unfinished and bucket-fed £l. 4s to £1 16s, bobby and rough 3s to 235. A surprisinglv bulkv yarding o f fa f pigs for this late season met a steady sale, although the extreme values for porkers obtained a week ago were not maintained. Choppers made £1 16s to £3 14s, h°avv £4 to £4 11s, medium £3 14s to £4 3s, light £3 3s to £3 10s. Heavy porkers made £2 16s to £3. against. £3 8s last week.
