BOWLLNu CLUB i The annual meeting of the Itaetihi Bowling Club was held on Friday night in the Druids’ Hall, when there was an attendance of about 30 members and apologies were received from 14 others. The president, Mr. Paulger, xvas in the chair and feelingly referred to the loss by death of the patron, Mr. W. Harris, and the gathering stood in silence for a moment in respect to his memory. The balance-sheet showed the club to be in a very satisfactory position. The following office bearers were elected for the ensuing year: - Patron, Hon. F. Langstone; president, Mr. R. Mosen; vice-president, Mr. C. Whyte; secretary and treasurer, Mr. A. Sims; committee, Messrs. Drury, Scarfe, Paulger, Soar and Comer, green superintendent, Mr. L. Legge; auditor, Mr. R. Mabbott; delegate to Wanganui Centre, Mr. A. Clinkard; official umpires, Messrs. C. Whyte and Willoughby; Press steward, Mr. D. P. Scarfe; selection committee, Messrs. Scarfe, Bryers and Willoughby. The newly elected president handed the following trophies to the winners: Open championship singles, R. Bryers; Williams championship pairs, W. Legge and R. P. Bryers; championship fours, A. Willoughby, W. Legge, F. Coury, B. A. Drury; junior championship singles, F. Beer; first year players singles, F. Beer; B pairs, G. Parkes, F. Beer; Watson banner, Raetihi Club; Curtis Cup, R. Mosen, R. P. Bryers; Coury Cup, R. Mosen; Walsh Cup, C. Davis, W. A. Bowick; Wednesday tournament, D. Scarfe, 8 wins, T. Hislop 6i wins; Thursday, W. A. Bowick 8 wins, G. Parkes 6> wins, Easter Monday, Paulger and K. McKenzie; Easter Tuesday, 11. Green, F. Soar, and W. Legge (dead heat). An enjoyable social evening followed and songs and others items were given by several friends. FOOTBALL A representative team the Kaitieke Rugby sub-Union journeyed to Raetihi and met a team from the Ruapehu sub-Union. The weather was cold but fine and there xvas not a very large attendance of spectators. Ruapehu scored first, Clyde Thomas getting across and Haitana kicking a goal. Haitana scored the next try and put the ball over the bar. From a penalty Crocker kicked a goal for Kaitieke, making the score 10 to 3. Richards got the next try and Fleming converted amid much applause. Dixon scored for Kaitieke bringing the total up to 15 to 6. Joe Bryers broke away and got across but Fleming failed with the kick. The final score was Ruapehu 23, Kaitieke 9. In a well contested game Raetihi juniors drew with Karioi each team scoring 6 points. Next Saturday Raetihi play United at Raetihi, and a good game should be the result. GENERAL At lhe Druids’ Hall on Saturday night Miss Jean Ingram ‘and Mr. L. Strange were tendered a gift evening by a number of young friends on lhe occasion of their approaching xvedding. Mr. R.. B. Davis made reference to the popularity of the young people and asked them to accept a large number of articles as a token of esteem and good wishes for their future happiness. Mr. Strange suitably replied. At the annual meeting of the Bowling Club a leter xvas received from Mrs. Smithson presenting her late father’s set of boxvls and measure to the club for the use of visitors and new players. A hearty x'ote of thanks was accorded the donor. The annual meeting of the Raetihi Dairy Company will be held on Saturday, 18th. inst. A number of Jersey dairy cows will be offered for sale by Messrs. Freeman R. Jackson and Co., on Thursday in the Sedc’on Street saleyards. The Public Works Department, has made a start with the metalling of the Waipuna Road. Some of the settlers have been in the district for about 30 years without a metalled road. The Wellington District Mortgagor’s Adjustment Commission sat at Raetihi last week when a number of cases xvere considered by the men?bers, Messrs. Harper (chairman). K. Dalrymple and Barrer. MAGISTR ATE’S COURT At the usual monthlv sitting of the Magistrate’s Court last xveek, judgment. bv default was given for plaintiff in lhe following cases by Mr. J. G. L. Hewitt. S.M.:- J. L. Lugton v. F. M. Barry, claim £6 14s 104 and costs; J. L. Lugton v. Florence S. Keane, claim £3 10s and costs: W. Foster v. H. Taylor claim £3 10s and costs; N. Petersen v. P. J. Curtis, claim £l3 2s 7d and costs: and Davies v. John Reid, claim £6 and Raetihi Borough Council v. G. Brogden, claim £2O 14s 8d and costs: R.aet.ihi Borough Council v. Edward ivlosen. claim £35 16s 4d and costs. Judgment orders xvere made against A. Holden. W. E. Bromley and Frank Frederickson. Magistrate’s Court Returns. The returns for the quarter ended June 30, 1936 of the business at the R.aetihi Magistrate’s Court shows a decrease as compared with the pre- ' vious year. 1 There were 39 criminal cases... in ; 1935 as against 9 in 1936. In the civil ' side there xvere 36 cases in 1936 as ! against 42 the previous year. ' The amount sued for in 1935 xvas ' £967 19s Id and in this year £357 12s 9d was sued for and £l6l 7s 4d was recovered in 1935 and £177 2s 8d in 1936. The civil fees received in 1936 xvere £45 17s 6d and in 1936 £6O 8s 6d. The criminal fees received xvere £lO 3s as against £1 14s and the fines xvere £2O 9s, against £1 10s. PROPOSED AERODROME A meeting of representatives of local bodies xvas held in the Council Chambers last xveek to consider obtaining an aerodrome for the district. Mr. T. Shout was in the chair. It xvas resolved to obtain a suitable , site and Messrs. Shout, Callaghan, D. . Berry, W. McDowell, and Dr. Jordan were appointed to arrange for an inspection by the aviation inspector.
