TRANSPORT ACT
MOOT POINT RAISED POSITION OF TAXIS PASSENGERS TO RACES (Special to “Chronicle.”) The question whether a taxi proprietor who drove patrons to a race meeting was carrying on a service according to a section of the Transport Licensing Act was placed before Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., for decision in the Marton Magistrate’s Court yesterThe question arose when the Transport Department charged H. J. Moore, taxi proprietor, that, being the owner of a public motor vehicle, he carried on a passenger service between Marton and the racecourse otherwise than pursuant to the authority of a passenger service licence granted under the Transport Licensing Act. The department was represented by Mr. E. H. Barrett and defendant by Mr. K. A. Williams. The magistrate dismissed the case, fixing security for appeal at £l5.
