GRAND MILITARY BALL Those who were privileged to attend the Hunt Club Ball will remember the grand time they had. Dancing enthusiasts will be pleased to know the annual grand military ball is being held in the Civic Theatre on Tuesday, August 18. Miss M. Brice is in charge of the ladies’ committee and arrangements are well in hand for a successful ball. The orchestra for the occasion will be Fred Godson’s, an orchestra which takes a lot of beating. Because of the success of the last militray ball the committee are sparing no effort in making this year’s function live up to or even belter than that of 1935. REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION MEET’S A meeting of the Rangitikei Rugby Referees’ Association was held on Wednesday, evening, Mr. G. Thomson presiding over a fair atendance ot members. A' letter was received from the headmaster of Huntley School thanking the association for supplying a referee for the annual match between Huntley and St. George’s schools. — “It is good to get a letter like this,” said the chairman. “We usually get more kicks than praise.” The secretary of the Schools’ R.ugby Union wrote with reference to the coming schools’ tourney to be held in Marton next month.—Mr. R. Rivers was appointed a delegate to attend a combined meeting on Friday evening to arrange details re billeting, etc. Mr. R. Rivers has been appointed the referee to control the game between Kaierau and Marton Old Roys at Marton to-morrow. There was a round-table discussion on rules. MAGISTRATE’S COURT The ordinary sitting of the Marton Magistrate's Court was held yesterday, Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., presiding. A. H. Boyle was lined £2 with costs 10s for failing to drive his vehicle on the left of the centre line. I. W. Turner was fined 10s and costs 29s 6d for failing to clear noxious weeds. An exciting tale of a crusade versus modern-day racketeers, it was written by Martin Mooney. New York reporter, who was placed under fire by a grand jury and sentenced to gaol for refusing to divulge the sovrae of his astonishing information read by millions in a series of sensational newspaper articles. From this material the new picture was written, adapted by Michael Fessier. A Lucien Hubbard production, directed by George Seitz: it also features Stuart Erwin. Joseph Calleia, Robert Barrat, J.
