MODEL AEROPLANES
LONDONTOWN’S EXHIBITION An interesting display of model aeroplanes is now being made at Londontown, the Avenue. The number of boys who visit the store after school hours is an indication of the airmindedness of the youth of to-day. Envious eyes are cast aloft at the modeLs and no doubt the heart of many a boy is thrilled at the sight of so many ’planes. One model of particular feminine interest is of Miss Jean Batten’s Moth ’plane in which she toured New Zealand recently. Altogether there are 27 models on display and to-day they are to be judged by Flying-Officer lan Keith, pilot-instriA’tor to the Wanganui Aero Club. Points are to be given for exactness, finish and design and the number of entries will also be taken into consideration. The lucky boy who is the winner will be given a free flight over Wanganui. In order to stimulate our youth and create interest in aviation, Mr W. J. Robinson, proprietor of Londontown, has given two prizes, one for a girl and one for a boy for the best essay on ‘‘Why Everyone should support the Wanganui Aero Club.” The competition closes on Wednesday, July 15. During the judging of the model ’planes to-day, members of the Wanganui Model Aeroplane Club will be in attendance to enrol new members.*

She will enter upon her new office at the annual council meetings of the federation to be held at the Kingsway Hall, London, soon. She is very qualified to hold this responsible post, as she has lived in a Liberal atmosphere and was elected Liberal member of Parliament for Anglesey in 1929, and has held the seat ever since. She is a very good speaker, clear, incisive, quick to seize an opponent’s point, and with a touch of that Celtic enthusiasm and magnetism of which Mr. Lloyd George has such a large share. A categorical denial has been given to rumours and statements that have been published in newspapers and magazines throughout the world that King Edward will shortly become engaged to Princess Alexandrine Louise, the youngest daughter of Prince Harald, brother of the King of Denmark. ’“The whole story is an invention absolutely unfounded and utterly untrue,’’ Prince Harald said to a Sunday Express interviewer. “Mv daughter,” he. added, “is not going to be engaged. 1 assure you that there is no engagement and no wedding impending in my family. The latest development of the rumours to reach me is based on the fact that apparently King Edward is supposed to have arranged to spend a holiday at Cannes. Knowing that is the favourite summer resort of King Christian of Denmark, it is now being said that I am going to join my brother at Cannes and spend the summer with him in order that Princess Alexandrine and King Edward may have an opportunity to meet. You can state quite definitely that I have no intention of going to Cannes. The Princess is not going to Cannes either. I wish all this nonsense would stop. We are constantly being pestered over the telephone. I am even pestered on my own doorstep. This has been going on for a whole month now, and we only want to be left alone.”
