REGENT THEATRE

• LITTLE LORD FAUNTLEROY.” Directed by David O. Selznick, whose work in ‘‘David Copperfield’’ earned him unstinted praise, “Little Lord Fautleroy,” the film concluding its sea.son at the Regent Theatre to-night, is a skilful screen adaptation of Mrs. Frances Hodgson Burnett’s delight!ul novel. Freddie Bartholomew gives one of his most polished performances m the title role. Another tine portrayal is given by C. Aubrey Smith in the part of the English earl, while the role of the young American’s mother is sympathetically treated by Dolores Cb.tello Barrymore. ‘ • Thoroughbred ’' Intrinsically a story of blueblood and thoroughbreds, both human and fourlooted, *'Thoroughbred,’’ the new Australian Cinesound production, comes to the Regent Theatre to-night at the late shoppers’ session. Ma Lawson, a veteran “battler” of the racecourses, disputes the contention of Sir Russell Peel, the most aristocratic breeder of aristocratic horses. The gentlemanly breeder insists that blue blood is supreme—“Ma” prefers red blood. The tale develops into an analogy of a thoroughbred woman and a thoroughbred horse. The girl is Joan, Ma Dawson's adopted daughter. Stormalong, a Peter Pan and a Phar Lap rolled into one, is the equine hero oi the tale and proves the wonder horse of the decade. Helen Twelvetrees, alluring blond of the American screen, is at"her best in her portrayal of Joan, characteristic Australian S ir b ia “Thoroughbred.” Frank Leighton very ably takes the part of Tommy to whom Joan is engaged, and John Langden the part of Bill Peel, also in love with Joan.
