McKenzie presiding. ; Also present were Messrs C. Trice, I. Jolly, R. J. Glasgow, G. Griffin, W. 8. . Page, E. Cowdry, and L. Bull, and the secretary (Mr K. A. Williams). It was decided that the fix’ure committee meet the Wanganui delegates after the Pownall Trophy match on Saturday to finalise the fixtures in connection with the Moye scheme. The following representative fixtures ! were confirmed:— I Senior | June 20.—v. Metropolitan, at Marton (Pownall Trophy). Managei of the Rangitikei team, Mr I. Jody. July 1 (Wednesday).—v. Taihape, at I Taihape. (Manager, Mr L. Pull). July 15 (Wednesday).—v. Te Kawau, | at Sanson. (Manager, Mr C. Price). I August <8 (Saturday).--v. Taihape, I at Hunterville. (Joint managers, Messrs A. Hen wood and L. Bull). Junior July 22 (Wednesday).—v. Te Kawau, at Sanson. (Manager, Air W 8. Page). August 5 (Wednesday).—v. Oroua, at Kimbolton. (Joint manager*:, Messrs C. Price and W. S. Page). Moye Scheme Marton Old Boys and Halcombe are j to be classified in the A grade of the I Moye scheme and Hunterville in the | B grade. The committee approved of the fix- ; tures drawn up by Mr Moye for his , scheme, which vomes into operation on | Saturday, June 27. The Oroua Rugby Union wrote ask- ' ing for a date for the return game j against the Rangitikei seniors. The suggested date to be forwarded to them i is July 29 (Wednesday). The match ’ is to be played at Bulls. The manager ! of the Rangitikei team is Mr R. C. S. • McKenzie. It was decided to entertain the Pownall Trophy teams at a dinner after 1 the match on Saturday. The secretary and Mr Jolly were instructed to make travelling arrange- j meats for the representative teams for j the season. It was resolved to deciie the junior championship on the first rwo rounds. July 8 (Wednesday) was set aside I for the Bailey Cup seven-s-side a 1: j Bulls. The offer of tne Wanganui and Old i Boys junior team to coma and play I whatever team had drawn a bye in the I junior competition as a curtain-raiser to the Pownall Trophy match, was ac- j eepted. Turakina are to play the Wan- , ganui team. The union decided to issue a chai- j

lenge to the Wainui-a-rua Union for the Maori Shield. Bcbbington Shield 1 ‘lt lias come as a great urprise and I think something should te done,” said Mr McKenzie, when a letter was read from the Bush Union, saying that they were unaware of any arrangement whereby their representative team should take the BebbingtOn Shield to Rangitikei. “If this arrangement had been made,” continued the letter, “it was unauthorised and the <*omiuittee feels it is unable to comply with your request. ,} Air McKenzie then traversed the history of the case, saying that at a dinner tendered to the Rangitikei team after the challenge match against Bush districts for the Bebbinotou Shield, played at Pahiatua last year, both the president and secretary of the Bush Union intimated tjiat at an early date this season, the Bush team would journey to Rangitikei for a return match, seeing that Rangitikei had just failed' to lift the shield on two occasions. Not to be contented with the answer, Air McKenzie went to Wanganui and interviewed again the president and secretary at the Bush v. Wanganui fixture last season. Air McKenzie obtained a very satisfactory reply that the Bush would bring the Bebbington Shield with them. The difficulty seemed to be that last year’s secretary and president had nothing to do with the affairs of the game this year and the new personnel was unaware of the tentative arrangements. It was a pity that such an important match as this .hould be cancelled. Air E. Cowdry, the referees* delegate, said that the relationship between the individual delegate and the union and fhe Referees’ Association was not all that it might be, the association feeling that the necessary co operation was Jacking. A referee went on to the field to do his best, and had not an enviable job at any time, but his rulings had been questioned and criticised by officials of the un'on. The decline in football at the present time was attributed to the criticism of referees’ decisions. He feit that some rule should be drawn up whereby, if an official did question any ruling, especially in front of the public, some sort of punishment should be administrated. If complaints were lodged, they should go through the proper •channel, where the referpe would be dealt with in the proper course of events. The president, replying, said he was surprised at what had been going on, but he hoped that conditions would improve and complaints would be made to the association and not to the public. SATURDAY’S BIG MATCH Marton are indeed fortunate in securing such a match as the Pownall Trophy fixture, for so early in the sea- , son. Wanganui have chosen a strong side and although Rangitikei has only three teams from which to choose their representatives, a young team that gives every indication of developing into a sound combination, has been picked to take the field. On paper tue holders have a more experienced and balanced side, but the greens will not let their supporters down, and are confident of giving the Metropolitan team a hard tussle. Mr. R. Rivers has been

chosen as the referee and the match is timed to start at 2.30 p.m. j A keenly contested and attractive exhibition should be witnessed in the > curtain-raiser to the big match. The ] Turakina team is reported to have ( plenty of weight, but whether they I 1 will be able to stand up to the Wanganui and Old Boys side remains to be seen. Turakina have so far not appeared the Marton Park this season, and local enthusiasts will be given a chance of judging the calibre of the team that has not yet been defeated. The match is timed to start at 1.30 p.m. Mr. W. Larsen will control the game. On account of the representative fixture, there will be no senior matches, but a continuation of the junior fixtures will see the commencement of the second and final round, when the following will be decided: Old Boys v - Huntcrville at Huntcrville, and Bulls v. Halcombe at Halcombe. Mr. B. Baker will referee the former and Mr. G. Burgess the latter. Both matches will begin at 2.45 p.m. MABTON GOLF DRAW I The following is the draw for toj morrow’s Stroke Competition:—F. J. Christensen v. L. T. Coleman; A. Ful-lerton-Smith v. P. H. Leonard; L.
