CAR STOPS ON RAILS WOMAN DRIVER KILLED [Ter Prtss Association. ] GORE, June IS. Ln connection with a fatal accident at Waipuhi railway croso r.u, 16 miles north of Gore shortly afternoon, in which Mrs Jessie Shaw, of Balfour, was killed when a five-seater sedan car hit a goods train, it is now ascertained that Mrs Shaw was driving the car. The other occupants were; John Shaw, farmer, of Balfour, husband of deceased; Tan Claude Butlec, farmhand; his mother, Mrs Rose Butler, and his sister, Miss Hilda Mary Christine Butler, all of Balfour. The car was proceeding b, Dunedin and it is believed that Mr.? Slaw heard the train whistle but dil not know from what direction it was coming. The visibility was bad due Io trees and heavy flakes of snow. The driver applied the brakes and the ■car stepped on the rails, being hit in the centre. The force of the impact eaased the door on the driver’s side to fly open and Mrs Shaw was flung cut, landing on her head on the cattle stop. Dnath was instantaneous.
