FORTY-HOUR WEEK
HOSPITAL EMPLOYEES QUESTION OF NURSES Jhe question of how the 40 hour week will affect employees of the Wanganui Hospital Board, particularly nurses, was raised at yesterday’s monthly meeting of the board by Air. A, J. B. Sieely (Marton). Mr. Sieely moved that the managing-secretary prepare a statement as to what bearing on the board’s finances the new legislation will have. Mr. Sieely said this was a serious matter which should immediately occupy the attention of the board. Illsaw no reason why nurses should be exempted from the 40-hour week, but it would be in the board’s interests if a statement concerning the new legislation was prepared by the managingsecretary in time for the next monthly meeting. The chairman (Mr. W. E. Broderick; agreed that a statement should be pre pared. The new industrial legislation might mean extra nurses and as a natural sequence extra accommodation would have to be provided. Mr. Sieely' s motion was carried.
