U.S. PRESIDENCY
THE PRIMARY ELECTIONS Received April 8, 11.30 p.m. WASHINGTON, April 8. Political observers in Washington attach considerable significance to the primary elections in Wisconsin yesterday, returns from which indicate, that Senator Borah received a preference vote for the Republican Presidential nomination. The majorities for the delegates pledged to him were not overwhelming, however, and according to some opinion here are not sufficient to counteract the rather severe defeat of his partisans iu the recent New York primaries. The trend of the primary voting thus far, according to observers, tends to widen the split in the Republican forces between the conservative east wing and the progressive west wing. Air. Landon, who is receiving considerable conservative support, appears to be well ahead in the early campaign for Republican nomination. Mr. Roosevelt, with, only scattered opposition, won the entire pledged support of the Wisconsin Democrats an I it is now all but. a foregone conclusion that he will be renominated at the first ballot at the Democratic Convention.
