THE WANGANUI SALE BREEDING EWES IN DEMAND CATTLE PENS WELL FILLED Reporting on their AVanganui sale held yesterday, Freeman R. Jackson and Co. state: Entries in the sheep section fell to 2000 compared with an average yarding of 7000 since the New .Year. Practically all the main lines are now sold and only oddments, with a few pens of bush ewes, came forward. The sheep sale was a good one, competition being particularly keen for any breeding ewes and bidding was brisk on the few lots offered. The cattle pens were well filled, 350 head coming forward. Well-bred steers and heifers sold freely under good competition. Fat cattle were on a par with late rates, a pen of good quality P.A. cows and heifers on account of J. Wyley and Sons making from £6 15s to £7 4s lid. All store pigs were sold at last week’s low values, baconers and porkers selling freely at late rates. A good entry of vcalers came forward. Good vealers sold well but the entry comprised some dairy cross vealers which did not sell as well as in the past. The sale was quite sound throughout, little stock remaining unsold. Realisations were as follow: Cattle.—Prime P.A. cows and heifers, £6 15s, £7 4s; prime ex-dairy, to £5 15s; fat cows, £3 ss, £1 10s; 3|-year Hereford steers, £7 ss, £7 15s; -i-year ditto, £6 2s 6d, £7 2s; 3-year Hereford and P.A. heifers, £5, £5 2s, £5 4s; empty run. cows, £3 ss, £4 10s; 20-month steers, £5 Is, £6 2s 6d; store cows, £2, £2 10s-; boners, £1 10s, £2 ss; Jersey weaner heifers, £2, £2 ss; good vealers, £2 15s, £3 12s 6d. Sheep.—Prime ewes, 17s; fat, 12s 9d, 15s; light fat wethers, 245; prime lambs, 235, 25s 9d; fat, 21s, 22s 6d; small 2-tooth ewes, 31s 2d; 2-tooth wethers, 22s Bd, 235; 4 and 5-year ewes, 20s sd, 245; m.a. ewes, to 23s 8d; s.m. ewes, 18s Id, 20s Id; good wether lambs, to 16s 3d; cull wether lambs, 8s Gd, 10s; ditto ewes, 12s 2d, 16s 3d; medium b.f. lambs, 12s, 15s 2d; culls, Bs, Ils; oneshear Romney rams, 2 to 4Agns.; ditto S.D., 2 to 4gns. Pigs.—Baconers, £2 4s, £2 17s; heavy porkers, 31s, 375; porkers, 255, 395. Vealers, £1 10s, £2 12s Gd; good stores, 18s to £1 2s; stores, 14s, 16s; good slips and weaners, Bs, 12s; others, 4s, 6s 6d.

VALUES AT ADDINGTON HEAVY YARDINGS NEARLY 50,000 SHEEP PENNED ( Ter Frota Association. ) CHRISTCHURCH, March 18. Entries in the store sheep section at the Addington market to-day were the heaviest tur a number of years, approximating 30,000 ewes and 9000 lambs. AV j th fat sheep and fat lambs iucluded the total penning of sheep was approximately 46,500 head. Store Lambs. —About 9000 were yarded, mostly back country and unattractive. There was an easing of Is Gd for carry-over sorts but very ordinary ewes sold extremely well with no easing. Store Ewes.—The big entry included many old ewes which came back in value but best station lines were only slightly easier than at the fairs. Fouryear ewes made to 27s Gd and twotooth to 31s. The best of the five-year ewes also sold well. Fa?. Lambs. —2600 were penned and there was a good sale at export rates of from B}d to BJd for firsts. Fat Sheep.—s2oo were penned. Exporters bought freely and there was a good sale .though values were easier by Gd to a shilling a head. Best wethers made from 27s .to 325, prime medium weights 23s to 2Gs, best ewes 22s to 28s, prime medium weights 20s to 21s. Fat Cattle. —435 were penned, the bulk ordinary being sorts. Good steers made X 111 to prime medium-weight £8 15s to £lO 10s. Good heifers sold from £7 10s to £9 J2s Gd and best cows from £7 to £8 10s. Values per lOOlbs were from 26s to 29 for best beef and from 23s to 25s for ordinary. Fat Pigs.—A heavier entry of porkers and an easier market, baconers selling slightly better as a result of the smaller entry and the competition of exporters. Baconers made from 5d to s}d per lb and porkers from 54d to Gd. WESTFIELD SALE LATE RATES MAINTAINED [ Per Prea» Association. ] AUCKLAND, March 18. A general increase in yardings over the previous week’s sale was a feature of the fat stock market at Westfield to-day. The offering of cattle in particular showed a considerable increase and the quality was well up to the average, although quotations maintained last week’s level of 32s per 100 lb. choice, and prime 28s to 31s. Prime young cow and heifer beef sold at 27s to 295, and other cow beef, 17s to 245. Extra heavy prime stee:s, £l3 to £l4 12s 6d; heavy prime, £ll to £l2; lighter prime, £lO to £lO 12s 6d; light prime, £8 15s to £9 10s; oinall and unfinished, £5 to £7 10s; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £7 10s to £8 15s; heavy prime, £5 IGs to £6 10s; lighter prime, £4 10s to £5 ss; other killable cows, £3 to £4. There was an unusually large yarding of calves and consequently prices eased considerably in this section, although there was a fair demand for rougher sorts. Runners, 4Gs to 110 s; vealers, 35s to 755. Although the sheep vardings wore heavy, there was a leady demand and last week’s values for wethers were maintained. There was an easing in prices in the ewe section. Wethers, prime, 27s 6d to 30s 6d; unfinished, 17s Gd to 23s 6d; ewes, prime, 20s to 265; unfinished, 9s 6d to 17s 6d; lambs, prime, 22s to 28s Gd; unfinished, Ils 9d to 17s 6d. Fat pigs were again plentiful and there was a strong demand for all prime baconers, while porkers sold freely at fully late rates. The price per lb. for baconers ranged from s|d to ssd. Baconers, 52s to 675; porkers, 32s to 475; large JBs to 265.
