OPENING SOCIAL The opening social for the 1936 season held under the auspices of the Gouville Bowling Club was held last Saturday night in the Alasonic Hall, Gouville. In past years these functions have proved a great success and judging by the attendance and enthusiasm shown ou Saturday night have lost noue of their popularity, there being over 100 patrons present. The evening took the form of flag 500, followed by supper and dance, will progressive 500 for the non-dancers. At the winning table for flag 500 were Air. and Airs. J. Ferris, Airs. A. Fyfe and Airs Green. Consolation prizes went to Air. and Airs. G. {Shipman and Mr. and Airs. 8. Rowntrce. The progressive 5*JO winners were Airs. Strachan and Mrs. A. B. Christensen. The Monte Carlo dance was won by Airs. Braid and Air. Shenstone. Next Saturday, Alarch 2.1, progressive 500 will be played and will count as first night of the aggregate for the session. An Ambitious Excursion. A tour to Auckland at Easter, reluming via. Taranaki, arranged by the Corsair Club in Christchurch, is conC'idered th-e most ambitious excursion organised in. New Zealand. Leaving Christchurch on Good Friday by steamer tth-c party will spend several hours in the Capital City before leaving by express train early in tho afternoon for the north. Alarton will be the stopping place for the evening meal, and breakfae-t and hot baths a*t the Auckland station at 6 a.m. on Sunday. After spending fihe day in the northern city, the homeward journey will begin at a quarter to ten the same evening returning via Stratford, where a stop will be made for breakfast, and at Alarton Junction for lunch. The party will reach their home town on Tuesday morning.
