SOVIET ARMAMENTS
STRENGTH IN FAR EAST Received March J 5. 910 p.m. TOKLO, Mar.h 14. According to Major Arimatsu’s report to Cab.net, the Soviet has massed 200,000 troops in the Far East a.nd 900 war 'planes. She has doubled the trans-Sibe ian railway and is spending huge sums on concrete fortifications on the frontier, while 50 submarines have been assembled at Vladivostock. - iaca-l The whole thing may be summed up as follows:—■ (1) Protection cf deer for and by the Government all the year round. (2) Block system where possible for ’ stalking. (3) Deer license fees. (4) Careful culling. (5) The subject of the milling of our ! forests and the da-truction of same by both sawmillers and farmers 10 be gone into carefully and legislated for. (6) Absolute prohibition of the burning of grass lands, by graziers on mountainous country to be enforced rigidly. (7) The Kitto plan re stalkers doing some culling or paying for raine to be put into operation. I have repeatedly written that more damage is done to New Zealand forests vach vear by* fires than has been done bv the doer since their liberation in 1370 a matter of 60 odd years. I could quite easily and truly add that more damage is done every day to New Zealand forests by sawmillcrs than all doer have donn from IS*O until to-day. We have found the man and it ir- earnestly asked that he—the Hen. Mr. Parry—take action to clay. To him the deer stalkers of New Zealand and abroad look for protection.
