JJaborate plans have been made by the combined pakeha-Alaoii committee to ensure that lhe programme is better and brighter than in former years. A new cup, solid silver, by the way, is now on view in Alesuis. J. Williams and Co’s, window. It. is a handsome trophy and will be avvardv.d to O.ie winner oi’ the o-peu jump. 'I iris event will attract the best hoxses in the dis trict and will be keenly competed throughout. The Parikino programme of ho.se events is a good one, ami has invariably awakened keen public interest. Wood-chopping events have been added lo the, progra’innm in late yean-, and on cadi occasion the volume of competition has ’been keener. This year the events under this head have been so arranged as to accommodate the increasing amount of competition. A varied athletic programme, has been arranged as usual and thei-e are several events in this, and under 1 ie heading of miscellaneous, which will iuteiCk-t women competitors. Parikino has a sports ground unrivalK*d in its public appeal. Il is situated on the fringe of a piece of native bush, and tac drive over ‘•Gentle Annie’’ from the city presents 1o the visitor that, wonderful view of too Wanganui River which has been so widely admiied by tourists who have visited this locality and made the journey down river by road.
