WEATHER FORECAST
Meteorological Office, Wellington, Thursday, Feb. 20, 4 p.m. General Situation. —Pressure is high over .the Tasman and southern New Zealand, but a depression still extends across the North Island with its centre over the Cook Strait area. Forecast.—Winds: South-westerly in the North Island, southerly or south-easterly In the South and strong on part of the East Coast, but decreasing; otherwise moderate. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough south of Castlepoint and in parts of the Cook Strait area, with a southeasterly swell; moderate to rather rough north of Farewell Spit, elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate southerly winds with smooth to moderate seas. Weather: Cloudy to overcast, with Tain in many places. Still mainly fair, however, in Westland and an improvement gradually setting in generally. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, 2 hours 30 minutes. Rainfall, .44 inches. Shade temperatures: Maximum, 70deg. Fahr.; minimum, 58deg. Fahr. Time of sunset to-day, 7.17 p.m. Time of sunrise to-morrow, 5.54 a.m. Phases of the moon for February: Full moon, February 7; last quarter, February 16; new moon, February 23; first quarter, February 29.
