INTEREST IN WARSHIP
V ISITORS TO SLOOP LEITH AT WANGANUI Considerable interest is being taken in the Imperial Sloop H.M.S. Leith, which arrived at Wanganui on Tuesday evening rom New Plymouth. The warship, which is now on a New Zealand coastal cruise, is berthed at the Castlecliff Wharf, where she will remain until Monday, when she will sail tor Lyttelton, Akaroa and the Chatham Islands. When the vessel was thrown open for inspection by the public on Wednesday afternoon she was visited bv a large number of people, including parties from the Wanganui Collegiate School. Keen interest was taken in every portion of the vessel open to the public, particularly the two 4.7-inch guns, which are of the semi-automatic type, and the 3-inch anti-aircraft gun. Suitable arrangements have been made for the entertainment of the officers and men during the vessel’s stay at Wanganui. A party of ratings was present last night at the swimming carnival which was held in the Wanganui 'fist Baths and added considerably to the success of the fixture. A game of water polo was arranged between a team representing the Leith and the Gonville Club. After an exciting encounter the match ended in a draw, each side securing one goal each. For to-morrow a shoot has been arranged between rifle teams from the Leith and the Ist. Battalion of the Wellington West Coast Regiment. The Leith will again be open for inspection by the public between the hours of 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to-morrow and Sunday,
