SEAMEN’S STRIKE

UNION REPRESENTATION Received Jan. 17, J 1.50 p.m. SYDNEY, Jan. .17. A special meeting of over 2000 sea men unanimously authorised Mr. J. Keenan to represent the Seamen’s Union at the conference of maritime unions convened by the Australian Council of Trades Unions in Melbourne on Monday next. Mr. Keenan will be accompanied by the Sydney branch secretary, Mr. C. Herbert, who told the meeting that if Mr. Keenan was not recognised by the conference ho would refuse to participate iu the discussions. ’ Mr. Johnson, who already is in Melbourne, has presented his credentials to the A.C.T.U. which he claims will prove that he is still the general secretary. The A.C.T.U. has invited the management committee of the Seamen’s Union to the conference, but Ims not recognised the claims of the i Central Strike Committee to be repre--5 sented. Mr. Herbert will represent the management committee.
