ADMIRAL OF THE FLEET

EARL BEATTY ON RETIRED LIST LONDON, Jan. 16. Earl Beatty, Admiral of the Fleet, who will be 65 years of age on Friday, has been placed on the retired list as a supernunery. No vacany has been created. Early Beatty was c-ne of the youngest men to become an admiral. He was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Grand Fleet, a position he held from 1916 to 1919. He served in the Soudan and China, distinguishing himself, as he did greatly it the war, especially in the Battle of the North Sea in 1916.
