In view of the number cf attacks recently made, the police are making special precautions on the waterf.Vnt and a constant patrol has been ordered. It is alleged that a steward from the Abel Tasman was attacked by a number of men, who flung him to the ground, kicked him and stole his discharges and bank book, in which there was a balance of £l5. The steward was not a volunteer. LICENSING SYSTEM SIGNIFICANT PROGRESS Received Jan. 16, 11.55 p.m. SYDNEY, Jan. 16. More than a thousand licences, including 350 by post, have now been issued to seamen in Sydney. There are now not more than a thousand vacancies to be filled on the 35 vesisels at present idle in Australia. In the whole of Australia more than 1600 volunteers have been placed in 92 ships.
