FAMOUS AUTHOR DEAD OUT OF TOUCH WITH WORLD LONDON, Jan. 15. Cynthia Stockley was found dead by a charwoman in a Bayswater flat covered by a counterpane under which there was a tube leading to a gas ring. Her friends say, despite the success of her novels she felt herself out of touch with the modern world. The title of her last unpublished novel was “Suicide Season.” Cynthia Stockley was noted for her novels of South African life. Among her best known books were “Poppy,” “The Claw,” “Wild Honey,” “Pink Gods and Blue Demons,” “Ponjola,” “Three Farms,” “Tagati,” etc. She was born in South Africa and left there in 1898 to take up journalism in London. She first married the late Phillip Stockley, and subsequently Captain Pelham Browne, M.C.
