GONVILLE CLUB INTERESTING RACING. WEEKLY CLUB NIGHT. With a crowd of members and supporters estimated at over 300, the Gonville Swimming Club held another successful club night last evening, and some interesting racing and keen finishes found them keyed up to a higu pitch throughout. The weather was ; line, though rather fresh for swimmers awaiting their events, but the officials ran through the programme with commendable promptitude. The ' water was fairly warm and suited the majority of the swimmers, who showed improving form. i Following are the results of the events decided:— 100 Yards Breaststroke (Whitlaw : Cup)).—l. WANGANUI EAST CLUB KEEN RACES STAGED SUCCESSFUL CLUB NIGHT : Both swimmers and public alike turned out in force la.st evening for the Wanganui East Club’s weekly club night. The events were well contested and provided exciting finishes. , Aluch interest was displayed in the senior men’s 100 yards invitation race, which provided a splendid ’contest. 1U , was keenly fought out of er the last few yards by K. We>lsh and N, Laird, who gave a fine exlii'biition, the first- • named winning by a narrow margin. The intermediate boys’ 50 yards invitation race also provided another : exciting finish, Reeve (Central) just heading Jeromson (Wanganui East) in the last yard. The men’s diving was also an interesting item, some fine efforts drawing unstinted applause from the spectators. G. Brewer, the winner, and K. Welsh, runner-up, especially gave fine exhibitions.
