Tuition in Swimming. Evidence of the keen interest displayed in swimming by a section of the community was provided by the number of enquiries received yesterday regarding the forthcoming “Lcarn-to-Swim” Week. It is evident that many non-swinimers are keen to take advantage of the Wanganui Centre’s move to increase the number of swimmers in Wanganui. The Wanganui Garrison Band will compete in the New Zealand cham ' pionship contest xvhich is to commence at New Plymouth on February 24. This decision was reached at a combined meeting of the Citizens’ and Garrison Band committees held last night. Mr. J. D. Crowley presided. Accommodation for the band has already been arranged at New Plymouth. Al embers are enthusiastic and rehearsals are being held three nights a xveek, and also on Sundays. The band « is steadily reaching contest form on the difficult selections, such as “Oliver Cromwell” and “Lizst. ” The hymn test and a march piece are also commanding their attention. Visit of Queensland Band. Thu Cairns’ Citizens’ (31st Battalicn) Band will tour New Zealand next month and will take part in the Dominion Championship Contest at New Plymouth. This band is expected to arrive at Wellington on February 4, by the Moriowai, and will also vDit Napier, Danncvirke, Woodville, Palmerston North, Wanganui, Hawera and Stratford. The band is due at "Wanganui on Friday, February 14, and is to leave for Hawera on the morning of Monday, February 17. The band will give a concert at Wanganui on the night of its arrival and a further pro gramme will be arranged later. This well-known Queensland musical combination will play under the baton of Air. James Compton, weU known at Wanganui. Air. Compton conducted the Garrison Band during its appear ance at the Wellington Contest in , February, J 93 3:
