NATIONAL CENSUS

THIS YEAR’S EVENT FIIXED FOR MARCH 24 GOVERNMENT STATISCIAN’S OFFICE BUSY After a lapse of ten yearr, a national, census is to be taken on Marell 24 this year and consequently the office of the Government Statistician is bui-y at the present time in making preparations for this event. The Dominion has been divided into 82 districts .for the census and each district will be under the direction of an enumerator. Approximately .1250 sub-enumerators will bo required for the distribution and collection of the census forms and their work will naturally continue for some time after March 24. The information which is required is similar to that sought in 1926. A special schedule printed in both. Maori and English will be provided for Maoris in the North Island. Personal schedules will be provided for each individual in the case of hospital, hotels and similar institutions, while the same will apply with regard to boarders and visitors in private families. 'The bulk of the work of taking flie census will take about, four weeks and the distribution of schedules in outl.Ung districts will be commenced about two weeks prior to the census date. Each person will be required to supply particulars regarding his or her full name, relationship to the head of the household, sex, age, marital status, orphanhood, dependant children, industry, occupation, occupational status, unemployment, religion, birthplace, duration of residence, race, war service, income and domicile. In addition, occupiers of dwellings will be required to give particulars of their homes similar to those included in the last census.
