THE DAIRY INDUSTRY
. INCREASED PRODUCTION BETTER ADVANCES FOR SUPPLIERS POSITION IX WANGANUI DISTRICT. Ihe rainfall this summer has had a beneficial effect on the production of dairy produce and during the month of December the output of the Okoia Dairy Company increased from 150 tons in December of last year to Jp<; tons and the output of the Wangaehu Dairy Company rose from 90 tons bj 102 tons. For the present season until the cf.-d .-f December the output of the Okoia Company shows an increase of 27 tons and the Wangaehu Company reveals a decrease of 30 tons when compared with the corresponding period of Ja.-t year. For the whole of the Domini, j the dairy production shows an incren.c of .06 tons when compared xvith :h--same period of 1934. In December of last year, dairy duction had commenced to fall aw ax as a result of the exceptionally hot weather. This year, however, the December returns were higher tiia i those of November and the flush of the season is being experienced now. The beneficial rains of the last lew days will delay the failing off in supplies for some time. Owing to the absorption of the Arainoho Dairv C <nipany and the Fresh Food and Ice Company under tbe zoning system, the Okoia Dairx- Company has found it necessary to instal a new churn and vat in order to cope xvith the additional supply of butterfat. The e.jn pany is also erecting more commodi ms premises for its factory hands, the present accommodation being linn led for the increased staff required to meet the additional supply. Increased Advances. Owing to the better tone of (he butter market in the Old Country this sea.-on, the Okoia and Wangaehu companies have averaged approximately lOd a pound for butterfat this season, the average for the corresponding period of last year being approximately 71d a pound. I’roviding that the price of butter does not drop it is probable that this price will be maintained but there is little likelihood of the advance registering an increase. The Okoia Company is paying 91d a pound for butterfat supplies received in December and the Wangaehu Company is advancing lOd a pound for the same period. On January 20 the former company will distribute £13.000 to its suppliers and on the same day the Wangaehu Company will make a distribution of approximately £7OOO. The directors of the Kai Iwi Company have decided on a payment of 9d a pound for December supplies of but terfat for the manufacture of cheese and a final bonus of a pound for the past season 's supply.
