NEW ZEALAND PROPOSAL BUSINESSMEN’S VIEW [Per Prasf Association. J AUCKLAND, Jan. i 5. The economic possibility of the es tablishment of steel works in New Zealand as proposed by the Minister of Employment (Hon. H. T. Armstrong), who stated recently that early consideration would be given to the matter b v the Government, was questioned by several Auckland businessmen this morning. The Chamber of (‘ommeire has written to the Associated Chambers pointing out that there is a very strong feeling among commercial men that such a scheme could not possibly be e.tablished as an economiv industry owing to New Zealand’s mail popula lion and the wide diverity nf the size? and shapes of articles as would be necessary if such works were io cater for the whole of the steel requirements of New Zealand.
