CHRISTMAS EVE CELEBRATIONS. Christmas Eve was a special children’s night in Bangiwahia, and children from all parts of the district were entertained in the Public Hall, which had been gaily decorated with coloured streamers and balloons, while a well Jaden Christmas tree occupied pride of place in one corner. The whole-hearted singing of the carols “Hark the Herald Angels Sing,” and “O Come all ye Faithful,” by the crowded hall, was most impressive. A special vocal item by some of the children was “/.way in a Manger.*’ Mrs. W. Boshier played for the singing and also for the folk dances, and grand inarch. Mr. N. Martin very ably managed the children and everything went according to programme. The climax of a most enjoyable evening was reached when, the lights being put out, Father Christmas, with an overladen sledge, appeared through a fireplace at the back of the stage. He then proceeded, in a most jovial manner, to give every child, from babies up to 14 years of age, a small gift. Later the children were served w'ith supper, after which dancing, to music supplied by the local orchestra, was enjoyed by both old and young. A Christmas hamper, which had been raffled for funds for the toys, was won by Mrs. P. Jewell, GENERAL Mr. R. Moess, who has been employed in the local Post Office, has received notice of his transfer to the clerical division of the G.P.O. Wellington. At a special meeting of the Oddfellow’s Lodge, on Friday evening, Bro. J. Fraser was elected to the position of F.S. owing to the resignation of Bro. R. Moess.
