A Moth aeroplane hired from the Victorian flying school for a day’s flying, made a forced landing in a paddock at Cowes and burst into flames. One occupant, Keith Angwin, was burned to death while a frantic endeavour was being made to release him from the wreckage. His brother, Max Angwin, who was pilot of the ’plane, suffered a broken kneecap; fractured wrist, and lacerations of the head. He was extricated before the flames reached him. The crash was heard by local inhabitants, several of whom rushed to the scene, but were driven back by the flames before they could release Keith Angwin’s safety belt. The machine was badly damaged.
