Meteorological Office, Wellington. Monday, Dec. 30, 4 p.m. General Situation. —Yesterday’s depression is now passing away eastward and a moderate anti-cyclone is advancing on to the Dominion. Forecast.—Winds: South-west to south-east prevailing, strong in parts’of the Cook Strait area, elsewhere light to fresh but decreasing generally to-morrow and becoming variable over most of the South Island. Seas (New Zealand waters) Rather rough, rough in the Cook Strait area, and rising somewhat north of Kawhia, otherwise slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate south-west to southerly winds, later becoming variable; seas moderate and decreasing. Weather: Some showers at first in the eastern and northern portions of the North Island and at isolated places elsewhere, but improving generally and otherwise fine. Temperatures cool. Sunset, to-day: 7-53 p.m. Sunrise, to-morrow: 4.55 a.m. Phases of the Moon. —First quarter, December 3; full moon, December 10; last quarter, December 18; new moon, December 26.
