WELLINGTON TITLES CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS FRANCE BEATS COOMBES [ Per Press Association.! WELLINGTON, Dec. 29. A high standard of play wan shown in the Wellington Lawn Tennis Association’s championships. In the men’s singles final D. G. France "fvas in his best form c-f this season, stroked quietly and confidently, and- took the net nearly always at tne right time, from where he won his points by angled smashes or volleys. Mixis D. Miller ran miles and fought with determination against Miss D. Nicholls. Miss Nicholls drove and chopped to- the comers. Miss Milloi made marvellous recoveries but Misfc Nicholls had the upper hand almost throughout. Miss Miller showed herself to be a remarkably fit and strong defensive player. The boys’ single© final, between Painter-and jßenour, was a quietly contested game played from the backline except for a few volleys by Renouf There were a few purple patches in the girls’ final, between Miss J. Douthett and Miss S. Dale (Tauranga). Miss Douthett did not play within streets of her game in the senior events. Miss Douthett was the steadier and profited by Miss Dale’s many mistakes.
