DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB. Dull light and a changeable wind interferred with shooting on the open range on Saturday, aud scores were as follow:

XMAS AT FLOCK HOUSE. Under fhe auspices of the W.D.F.U., Mrs. E. R. Brice and Miss Simpson organised a Christinas festival gathering at Flock House on Friday night, and a party of some 40 young ladies came along to provide partners for the lads in training there. Th© visitors were welcomed by Mr. Grey, the .headmaster; Miss Samson, matron; and Mr. Lees, manager. Apologies were received from Mr. E. Newman, 0.8. E., Mr. Pointon (late of the staff), and many ex-trainees. The dance opened with a Leap Year innovation, each lad leading his partner, to the accompaniment of music in the gardens. The dance through artistic groves and pretty walks proceeded merrily, and was a fore-runner to other dances inside. During intervals in the dancing various items were given, Misses Cameron and Wilkie singing a duet (in character); Miss Patricia Collier contributing two dance solos, one, “Sur les pointes” a classic, and the other a National dance. Miss Adele Nitschke (Bonny Glen) rendered songs, and Mr. Tom Barton caused much amusement- w r ith an eccentric tap dance, Miss Taaffe playing the accompaniments. A Palmerston North orchestra provided delightful . music, and Miss Taaffe played extras. After a sumptuous supper, the visitors were shown over the buildings, the party concluding at midnight with Auld Lang Syne and Good Night Ladies, a part song capably rendered by the boys.
