WEDDINGS

ROBERTSON—HOWIE. A wedding of very wide interest was celebrated on Saturday afternoon, when Marjorie, fourth daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Janies 8. Howie, Parsons Street, St. John’s Hill, Wanganui, and until recently old-established residents of the Hunterville district, was married at St. Paul’s Church, Wanganui, to John Stuart Hector Robertson, eldest son of Mr. John Robertson, Melbourne, and the late Mrs. Robertson, Dunedin. The bride’s sister and friends had decorated the interior of the church beautifully with hydrangeas and roses, a posy of these flowers being attached to the end of each pew, while an archway surmounted the top end of each of the aisles. Rev. John Paterson officiated. Escorted by her father, the bride looked very charming in her model gown of ivory satin riche, tailored on classical lines and falling to a full train. The .long, tight-fitting sleeves were shirred at the shoulders and, falling to a point over the hand, were fastened tiny satin-covered buttons. The bodice was also shirred at the neckline, which finished in a soft roll collar. A row of buttons from collar to waistline completed the charming ensemble. She carried an arm sheaf of Madonna lilies. The bride was attended by her sister, Mrs. H. F. Low, of Marton, as matron of honour, and by Rosamond (Pixie) Lilburn, a niece, as bridesmaid. • They were gowned alike is acquataine blue moulded to the figure, featuring the new Hardy drop neckline, finished with capelets of richelieu lace. Three flowers of self material perfected the charming model. The headgear was distinctive, the matron of honour wearing a model hat of beige straw trimmed on the right underside with a large pink rose to match the bouquet, while the bridesmaid wore a bandeau of rosebuds. The posies were of pink roses and paler pink carnations, with rosebud trails reaching to the hem of the frock. Mr. Maurice Alexander, of Mangaweka, was best man.. The ushers were Messrs. A. Chisholm, J. D. Lilburn, N. F. Low, and E. Lilburn. A reception was held at the Elrick Lounge, and afterwards at the home of the bride’s parents, where a wealth of presents was on view. To receive the guests, Mrs. Howie wore an ensemble suit of black basket-weave georgette and lace with black hat to tone. The bridegroom’s sister, Mrs. Treurn, of Dunedin, wore a frock of navy embossed crepe, trimmed with white collar and cuffs, and navy hat. Miss D. Howie, the bride’s eldest sister, wore green marocain spotted with white and a green hat with white trimmings. Mrs. J. D. Lilburn (sister of the bride) wore a model frock, of beige lace, and Mrs. J. L. Lambert (sister of the bride) a model frock of blue and beige marocain. When Mr. and Mrs. J. 8. Robertson left on their honeymoon, the bride wore a grey tailored costume with day-navy accessories. All Saints’ Church, AVanganui East, was the scene of a pretty wedding on Thursday, December 26, when the marriage was celebrated of Edith Marion, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Gaunt, of AVanganui, and Horace Lancelot, only son of Mr. and Mrs. L. Taylor, Wanganui. The Rev. P. A. Stanley officiated and Hiss Marshall played the wedding music. The bride, who was accompanied by her father and attendants, wore a frock of white satin beaute cut on long slim-fitting lines with coatee effect and. sleeves with tight lace cuff from the elbow. Her embroidered tulle veil was arranged .to the head, with a circlet of orange blossoms, and she carried a bouquet of roses, carnations and lilies. The bride’s two sisters, Misses liloris Gaunt and Irene Gaunt, were bridesmaids, wearing picturesque frocks of pale green floral georgette with hats to match. They wore crystal necklets, the gift of the bridegroom, and, carried bouquets of sweet peas in toning shades. Mr. Jack Faulkner was best man and Mr. Francis Minnell groomsman. After the ceremony a reception, followed by a dance was held at the Elrick Tearoom, which was decorated with bowls of flowers, and the tables in pink and green. Over 100 guests were received by the bride’s parents, Mrs. Gaunt wearing a navy blue floral marocain frock aud navy blue hat. Mrs. Taylor, the bridegroom’s mother, was attired in saxe blue floral silk crepe and toning hat.- Music for the dance was played by Miss Gregory and Mr. Ambrose made a capable M.C. For going away the bride wore a light brown costume, with hat, shoes and handbag to tone. Among the guests were Mr. and Mrs. S. A wedding of considerable interest was celebrated on Saturday evening, December 21, at Christ Church, when Joyce Cotter, younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. AV. Casbolt, of AVanganui, was married to Henry Robert, only son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Pierson Musson, of Hinds, South Canterbury. The Rev. Archdeacon J. R. Young officiated, and Mr. F. Wentworth Slater played the wedding music. The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a beautiful gown of parchment satin. The close-fitting corsage was designed with high neckline in front and cowl effect at the back and the tight-fitting sleeves which came to points over the back of the hands had a straight line of small satin buttons from shoulder to writs. A satin sash arranged from the sides fell to the ground at either side of the long train. Her veil of beautifully embroidered tulle swept to the end of her train from a coronet of pearls and orange blossom buds and she carried a sheaf of Christmas lilies and maidenhair fern. The bride was attended by her sister, Miss Mavis Casbolt, Miss Mildred Gibb-Brown (Wellington) and Miss Madeline Beverley Smith. They were dressed alike in frocks of lime green georgette made on princess lines with high necklines in Iront and u cowl at the back; and the skins slightly trained. Old gold girdles, wide brimmed old gold mandarin hats and gold shoes to tone were worn, and the" bouquets of Iceland poppies, old gold roses and midenhair fern completed the very effective toilettes. The bridegroom was supported by Mr. George Lishman, of Christchurch, Mr. Stanley Downes ((Dunedin) and Mr. James F. W. Broad (Wanganui). A reception was afterwards held at the Elrick Lounge, which was beauti fully decorated with roses, Iceland poppies and maidenhair fern. The guests, numbering oven 60, were received by Mr. and Mrs. Casbolt, the latter wearing a smart ensemble of reversible brown satin romaine with cape effect slightly inverted at back and with large satin buttons to tone. With this was worn a wide brimmed Baku straw hat to tone and banded with velvet and flat pink roses. She carried a bouquet of old gold and pink roses. For travelling the bride chose an ensemble suit with cape effect of Havana brown, beige satin blouse and brown silk stitched hat. Mr. and Mrs. Musson left for Wellington, where they joined tha s.s.
