ACROSS THE PACIFIC
PROPOSED AIK SERVICES FACILITIES AT AUCKLAND [ Per Press Association. J AUCKLAND, Noy. 26. The provision of facilities for the proposed trans-Pacific and transTasman air services was advanced a stage further when the Auckland Harbour Board decided to make application to the Government for vesting in the board of the freehold of an area of 90 acres of sea bed in the immediate vicinity of the headland, east of Lady’s' Bay near St. Heller’s. In a report to the board, the engineer Mr. D. Holderness, considered the most suitable area of water for the landing of seaplanes lay between Brown’s Island on the east, Bean Rock Light on the west, Rangitoto Island on the north, and St. Helier’s Bay waterfront on the south. The facilities for the landing of passengers and the haulin'. up ot the machines would be required and could be best provided by a reclamation on the eastern side ot Lady’s Bay. Mr. Holderness said the area, for the freehold of which an early application should be made to the Government, included a reef and a portion of the sea bed covered by the proposed reclamation. It would also enable future extensions to be made, if necessary, mainly on the east and north.
