MOISTURE FOR ORCHIDS

The varieties of Dendrobium nobile and its hybrids, D. thyrseiflorum, D. crassinoides, etc., delight in extra moisture and warmth during the growing season, but, like many other Burmese orchids, do not object to a cooler atmosphere in the early morning. The same applies to Vanda coerulea, Ada aurantiaca. Masdevallias, Sophronitis, and Laelia dayana. One other general hint is worthy of notice: the practice of placing a thick layer of hphagnum moss on top of the compost is advantageous in hot, dry weather, but is very misleading when watering, and is better dispensed with under present conditions.
