PLUNKET SOCIETY
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Plunket Society and the Stewart Karitane Hospital was held in the Plunket Rooms on Tuesday, November IL The president. Mrs. IL D. Robertson presided over the following members present: Mesdames Ziesler, Jamieson, Graham, Bennett, Warnock, McCallum, and Boyes. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Millward, Dwyer. Row, Hine, Taiboys, S. Robinson, Halligan, Cole, Oliver, Brinkman and Mr. O’Meara. Before commenting the mee’ing the president referred to the Joss the socictv had sustained since the las* meeting in the deaths of two valued members. Mrs. Krull an original member of this branch and a generous subscriber for many years; and Air. Tuck, who gave the building now known as the [Junket rooms and who has remembered the society in his will. The members stood in siltnee as a mark of respect. The Plunket nurses report that the ' month of October had been a busy One. j Seventy six new cases were regis-tered--1 17 mothers and babies visited the various offices and the nurses had I paid 30S visits to homes, and they ■ had had ■?_’ telephone calls. Of the i new babies registered 25 were breastI led, 2 breastfed and supplemented with i humanised milk and 8 were artificially • led. Of the 35 new babies 33 were normal. The nurses desire to thank the ladies of Christ Church hewing Guild for another parcel of very useful baby clothes. The matron of the hospital gave her report as follows: —15 babies were admitted and 16 discharged—7 mothers admitted and 10 discharged. Babies and mothers were sent in from the following districts: Wanganui, 9 babicsj and 3 mothers; Stratford, 1 mother and 1 baby; Oeo, 1 baby; Palmerston North, 2 mothers and 2 babies; Eskdale, 1 baby; Feilding, 1 baby and 1 mother. Nurses Wilson and Harrison commenced their training. The matron desires to thank the following for gifts received during the month: Airs. Baker, Tauranga, oranges and lemons; Mrs. Preston, lemons; Miss Stanford, marmalade; Mrs. Taiboys, flowers; and Babington’s Stores, biscuits. The. committee accepted the recommendation of the Advisory Board and executive to fence the Wanganui East Plunket Rooms site and to paint the building. This work is to be done immediately which will be a great improvement, when com p eted. The committee thank most sincerely the committee of the Police and Press for their donation of £10; the Plunket Society (Hawera) for donation of £5 5s and the Feilding Plunket Society for donation of £2. regret and appreciation was expressed of her services. The matron of the Stewart Karitane Hospital is urgently in need of old linen. Any donation will be gratefully received and may be left either at the hospital, the secretary’s office, or the Plunket Room*,,
