SOCIAL CREDIT

Sir.—Our friend. “ Stability, ’’ in your issue of the Sth inst., suggests that we should watch Alberta before committing this country to any scheme for the socialisation of credit. It seems to us that if civilisation in general had adopted Micawberish like those suggestell by “Stability” tho human race would not have advanced very far along the road of progress. Apparently Albert was not afraid to step forward, and there is no reason why we should be afraid, unless we desire to wallow in the depression four years longer. “Stability” also suggests that if a national dividend were paid in this country there would be little money available fur superannuitanls and pen sioners. Under our present obsolete national accountancy that would probably be tho case. But social credit is ‘dive, progressive, dynamic. It takes into its reasoning every new scientific process and invention that will aid in shifting the burden from men’s backs to the backs of machines-, it does not destroy the fruits of the earth, stultify genius, nor affirm that work alone is man's portion on earth. Let us put the proposition this way: A group of scientific workers in tho U.S.A., after years of research, have reached the conclusion that the potential capacity of America is such that that country could satisfy the physical requirements of the whole world.—Wo are, etc., WANGANUI DISTRICT •COUNCIL, Douglas Social Credit Movement of N.Z.
