Until the Wanganui camp, which is now being established at Lionville, is equipped with buildings it cannot be recognised in any application fur a share of the health stamp proceeds, but whatever stamps are sold within the Wanganui district will establish a fund which may be used to cover the expense uf sending children front this district to and from the camp at. Otaki. • Air. W. G. Cooper, chief postmaster, and Air. E. C. Gamble represented the Postal Department, Air. E. F. Heming way and Air. G. N. Boulton the Education Board, together with Dr. Elizabeth Gunn and Alessrs. P. Higginbottom, K. L. Thompson, J. T. Worry and S. McCallum, tiie Wanganui Rotary Club, and Air. A. h’. Donaldson, the Health Camp Trustees. The Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, Women’s Institutes. Bowling Clubs. School Committees and other kindred bodies were represented. Air. Donaldson explained the position as it affected the Wanganui Health Camp itself and the national campaign for the sale of stamps. Correspondence and advice from Mr. L» O. Hooker, organiser of the health stamp campaign, was tabled. Mr. I Cooper also outlined the departmental ( attitude. Mr. Hemingway pointed cut that .Wanganui had started the health camp jb movement in New Zealand and had » I everything in trim for the opening of a permanently equipped camp, probabiy in February. Air. Higginbottom pointed out that despite all that had been done Wanganui was without a recognised Health Camp Association and, he tcuk it, that that was the first purpose of the meeting. Air. Donaldson explained that Mr. Gibbons, representing the donors of the site, Air. W. J. Rogers (as Mayor for the time being), Air. E. F. Hemingway (chairman uf the Wanganui Education Board), Air. K. G. Taiboys, representing the Rotary Club, and himself, representing the citizens of Wanganui, were the present trustees of ths health camp at Gonville, and it war hoped to have the camp in operation by February. There was a need foi capital, and as proceeds from the salt of health stamps could not be used for that purpose, it was desirable that funds raised from entertainments and similar avenues should be earmarked for the trustees to assist in the erection of buildings and so on. Once the buildings were up the camp could then become a centre to which children could be sent by means of the health stamp funds. In the meantime nobody wanted tu prevent any Wanganui children who should go to a camp from going, and the meeting was primarily concerned with the sale of health J stamps so that Wanganui district would be credited with a share of the funds so raised. That was the immediate duty of lhe meeting. Later, if a committee was formed and was successful, the Wanganui health camp would be grateful of its direct assistance in the shape of promoting entertainments and other activities to raise funds for the Wanganui camp’s special benefit. Air. Higginbottom moved that the existing trustees become a Wanganui Health Camp Association and apply for recognition as such. This was seconded by Mr. Thompson and carried. Airs. Wi. khnm, Mrs. A. H. McLean, and Mr. W. J. Healey said that the or ganistitions they represented (Women's Division and Bowling Chib) had been approached to raise funds by euchre parties and dances, but. they were under the impression that the funds so raised were to be used for the Wanganui health camp and they were prepared to act onlv on those conditions. It was decided finally to appoint the following committee to take in hand the organising of the Wanganui district: Alesdames Wickham, A. H. AirLean, Goodie. Rollings, McPhail, Messis. R. L. Thompson, I‘. Higginbottom, E. C. Gamble (representing the department). G. N. Boulton and R. N. Wilson, together with the Mayor (Mr. W. J’. Rogers'), Mr. W. J. Cooper (chief postmaster) as treasurer, and Mr. C. H. Clinkard (as honorary secretary, pro | ten)'.
