FIXTURE 1 OR WANGANUI. TO BE HELD NEXT YEAR. A definite step towards holding a Pipe Band contest iu Wanganui lor A and L guide oauds was taken last night al a meeting held m flue City Council Chambers aud convened by the Alayor (Air. W. J. Rogers). It was unanimously decided, to hold the contest and a cuiumittce ot enthusiastic supjiorters was set up tor the purpose of arranging the preliminary details. Air. J. Patterson was electea president pro tern and the committee was given power to add to its strength. Lt was also decided, lu commence acti'ities immediately and the first committee meeting is to be held next week, 'lhe original proposal was to hold, the contest in February, but there is a possibility that it will be held a few weeks later. This matter will be gone into- thoroughly, however, and the venture is promised every success. Air. J. Patterson said at the outset that he was indebted to the Alayor lor calling tho meeting on behalf of the Pipe Band enthusiasts of Wanganui. He had been promised the assistance or several men who had helped with the organising ’of the last brass band cc*ntest belt! in Wanganui, besides which many others had signillcd their read! ness to support the scheme. It Avas proposed to hold a oiie-day contest, which would create Dominion-wide interest. It was hoped to have bands in attendance from both the North and .South Islands. It was also proposed to hold a New Zealand Championship. Air. Patterson accordingly moved that, the contest be held and that a committee be set up immediately. He was supported by Air. A. AtcSkiinming and the motion was carried by acclamation. “The contest is not only one of local appeal, but also of New Zealand appeal.” remarked one member of the newly-formed committee. “We can expect entries fr/ln all over the Dominion.”
