SIGHT-SEEING AT MT. COOK [ Ter Press Association. ] TIMARU, Aug. 26. Mr. K. Debuchi. Ambassador Extra ordinary and Leader of the Japanese Goodwill Mission, a widely travellec man, who is now at Mount Cook, declared that the scene of the regior easily surpassed anything he had seen He arrived there yesterday, tlie wea thcr being perfect, and obtained his first view of Mount Cook from Pu kaka. The party walked to the ter minal face of the Muvller Glacier anc then proceeded some distance up the Hocker Valley. They were greatly impressed with the whole surround ings. i Mr. Debuchi expressed the opinion that the region has immense possibilities .as a tourist resort. I he value ot a better umlci.standing between Japan and New Zealand was emphasised to-day at various functions attended by Mr Katsuji Debuchi, leader of the Japanese “goodwill mission.” While the importance of the increasing trade between the two countries was touched on, the fact, was stressed that international friendship and peace depended more on the human basis of goodwill than on the amount of goods exchanged between one nation and another. Mr Debuchi and the members of his mission had a busy day following tne laying of a wreath at the base of the war memorial. Mr Debuchi drove to the Town Hall, where a civiv reception was extended to him by the Mayor (Rev, Cox). Later he was entertained at luncheon by members of the Chamber of Commerce, and in the afternoon he was taken for a drive round the city by the Mayor. In the evening Mr Dobuchi was the guest at a civic “at home” in the Town Hall.
