KITCHEN TEA FOR MISS P. FAGAN Un Friday evening a jolly evening was given Miss Phillis Fagan, of Sanson. by her +r>“.i.ds, at the lesidencc of Mr and Mrs A. K. Drew, “Biooklyne,” in honour of her approaching marriage to Mr W. F. Jordan. The eveifng was spent in dancing, competitions and community singing. li«?ms were rendered by Alisses Frances Anderson, Nellie Masters, Airs J. Tricker and Air H. V. Bond. Airs KVile acted as aeeompaniste. At ,a suitable interval. Air A. K. view, on beuatf of those present, called on Miss Fagan. Jn asking Miss Fagan to accept the gifts that had been received, Al r Drew stated tha/ they represented a token of friendship and appreciation of the work Phillis had done for many functions that had taken place in Bandon. Air Drew concluded by extending the best wishes of all assembled for her future happiness. Alusical honours were then accorded the guest of-the evening. Aliss Fagan then called on her father to reply. -Mr Fagan expressed his thanks for the very useful gifts and said that Phillis would always remember the friends of her childhood days. ARBOR DAY CELEBRATIONS SANSON SCHOOL Arbor Day was celebrated al the Sanson School on Wednesday afternoon in very unpleasant weather conditions. A nuniibcr of pr.rents were present and each child provided his or her own tree which was planted, and their name printed on a peg. Mrs Tomlinson, Air D. J. Koster, and the head teacher, Aliss Peattie, donated a number of trees. With the planting of some 75 trees the programme set out by the committee has been achieved. The chairman of the school committee, Air E. J. Bowater, briefly addressed the pupils and thanked the‘children for supplying such a good class of tree. Air Bowater stated that he would donate a prize to the girl and boy who gives their tree the most attention throughout the year. After the ceremony the teachers entertained the committee and parents at afternoon tea, which was greatly appreciated by all who attended. Mr D. C. Sanson expressed the thanks of the parents and committeemen to Aliss Peattie and Miss Macfarlane. A’cry favourable comments were jxrssed on the new wash basins installed in the school by the Wanganui Education Board.
