Beautiful Fresh Daffodils. To aid the Plunket funds Airs. Lethbridge, of Turakina, has offered a quantity of lovely daffodils. Airs. H. D. Robertson and Aliss Newcombe will motor to collect the flowers and they will be offered for sale in the D.I.C. Lounge to-day.

Hockey Club Dance. The Kawhaiki Ladies’ Hockey Club dance will take place to-morrow (Saturday), in the Kaiwhaiki Hall. Larkin’s Orchestra will play the music and a good floor is promised. A bus leaves Hodson’s Garage at 7.45 p.m. Fancy Dress Party.

Readers are reminded of the fancy dress party being held by the Christ Church Girl Guide Company and Brownie Pack, in the Savage Club Hall this evening. For weeks the girls have been making preparations for the programme which will be a varied one and should prove most entertaining.

The suggestion that greater attention should be paid to the training of young girls for domestic service was made by a deputation which waited on the board of managers of the tteddon Memorial Technical College, Auckland, this week. It was suggested that the girls might be trained at the college. There had been difficulty in placing girls in positions due to lack ot training. Alany unemployed girls had applied to the Women’s Unemployment Committee, but they failed .to secure positions because they had not the qualifications for domestic service. It was considered that a short-course school was absolutely imperative. Birthday Party.

At .their home “Invermailie,” Turakina, a delightful party was given by Air. and Airs. W. Glasgow on August 7 to celebrate the first birthday of tneir small grandson, Bill Johnstone. The drawing-room was decorated with bowls of red japonica, and a large log-fire added to the cheeriness of the party. The large birthday cake was centred with one candle. Airs. Glasgow wore a black frock relieved with white, and her daughter, Airs. Bruce Johnstone, of Te Kuiti, was in a black frock with touches of green. Among those present were: Alesdamcs G. J. Adams, J. Young Folks’ Concert. A number of young people, under the guidance of Aliss Stanford, gave a delightful entertainment last evening in aid of the Khandallah Home. Airs. G. W. Currie, Wicksteed Street, kindly offered the use of her large drawingroom and here a pleasant evening was spent by several friends who thoroughly enjoyed the programme. The items were as follows: Trio, “Polish Dance,” by 1. Lethbridge, A. Campbell and D. Williams; dance, “Ace of Diamonds,” given by I. Lethbridge, A. Campbell, V. Collins, D. Williams, H. Young, R. Campbell; duets, “By the Stream” and “Alorning Song,” by 1. Young and H. Young play, “Amelia Obliges,” the parts being as follows: Airs. Meredith, A. Cave; Alary Aloule, R. Campbell; Susan, A’, Collins; Jim Porlock, I. Lethbridge; Airs. Courtney, J. Wilberfoss; Angela Courtney, D. Williams; Alelinda Courtney, A. Campbell; Amelia, F. Russell; Desmond Courtney, P. Currie. Song, “You Will Never Grow Old,” sung by the company. The entertainment concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
