UNUSUAL REQUEST
MAGISTRATE’S REPLY. [ Per Preus Association. ] WELLINGTON, Aug. 20. An unusual request was ma le by Gerald Thomas Silk, aged 4G, labourer, when he was sentenced by Mr. Mosley in the Magistrate’s Court to-day to a total of twelve months’ imprisonment on three changes of theft. He asked for three years’ probation at the conclusion of the term, as he wanted to help himself. When he got drunk he did not know what he was doing. The magistrate said that he had no power to make the order. He suggested that Silk approach the Prisons Board when he came out, of gaol.
